New Zealand is a wonderful country of contrasts, with a geography and landscapes that I had never seen before.
We flew from Sydney to Christchurch, where we picked up our cute red camper van.
We chose the rental company called Classic Campers that offers different retro and stylish Volkswagen Kombi camper vans. That was our home for the next eighteen days.
To find where to sleep during that weeks, we used the app CamperMate, it works very well.
Welcome to our New Zealand favorite places . . .

The first night we slept in a free camping on the shores of the lake, there were few people but enough to not be afraid.
We woke up with the first rays of light and it was really beautiful, the colors of dawn in the sky and water and the sound of pure nature.

It is the most beautiful city in New Zealand and probably one of the places we liked the most.
On the shores of Lake Wakatipu surrounded by mountains. With a nice harbor, a small beach and many cozy terraces where to diner and have a drink.

Now more than ever I find the meaning to the sentence:
“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations”

This place left us speechless. I guess it is necessary to be there to understand it, because the pictures do not do it justice.
It is important to fill the petrol tank in Te Anau before taking the road to Milford because then there are no gas stations. And also it is important to know that the road is quite complicated and that there is just a camping in which is necessary to book in advance.

A few minutes from Queenstown is found this wonderful place.
A spa with private jacuzzis where to get carried away by the beauty of the surroundings and simply relax.
I highly recommend it.

Beautiful place and colors, the water comes from the glaciers of the high mountains and that is why it is frozen.
I recommend to be very careful with mosquitoes. All along the west coast is plagued by so-called Sand Flies which, although they seem harmless, the sting is worse than that of normal mosquitoes.

Our last stop on the South Island was this national park. We stayed two nights at Marahau camping.
From there we took the water taxi to go to the paradisiac beaches.

We chose the company Bluebridge to take it.

Once in the north, we went to Tongariro National Park although we could not do the trekking because the weather was not good that day and we did not have enough time.

Even without having seen The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, it is worth visiting this beautiful village in the hearth of New Zealand created exclusively to film the movies.

After walking 45 minutes along a path, we found this wonderful beach. There was a free camping in the parking where the trail starts, so we stayed there the night before.
We spend all day there sunbathing and enjoying the views.

Our trip ended in Auckland, where we returned the Van and took the plane back to Australia.
I hardly recommend the Amano restaurant and the Giapo ice cream shop, and also going up to the Sky Tower to see how the city really is.
I will remember this trip all my life, it has taught us many things and it makes me very happy to have been able to live it together with my sister.
