May 2016. One week, 10 stops. “Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination”
First Stop: MADRID
Our road trip started in Madrid. We stayed only one night, at Petit Palace Italia Hotel. It’s perfectly located, in Gran Via, and the treatment was amazing.
Second Stop: SAN SEBASTIAN
The next stop, where our trip really began, was San Sebastian. It’s a city I love, I usually go several times per year.
We were lucky, because we could enjoy the city with good weather and low tide, so we walked barefoot on the beach during sunset with ice-creams from Boulevard Heladería, my favorite one. Then, we had dinner at Belgrado, in Gros. We liked it a lot.
Views from Monte Igeldo are amazing, the ticket costs only 2€ per person, and I highly recommend it , because the whole bay is seen from up there.
Playa de La Concha
This place is magic. It reminds me of my childhood.
Puente de las Brujas. Leizarán
Third stop: ZUMAIA
Here, we visited the flysch and San Telmo church, where a scene of “Ocho apellidos Vascos” was filmed.
Fourth stop: GETARIA
Getaria is amazing, it’s one of my favorites villages near San Sebastián. We ate pintxos and we enjoyed views form the castle. Balenciaga museum is there because is the birth town of the famous designer, and it is opened to the public. It’s interesting to visit the gothic church of San Salvador, where the floor is inclined due to the rocky terrain on which it stands.
Fifth stop: ZARAUTZ
I love the road between Getaria and Zarautz, specially with loud music in a convertible car.
Here, we walked along the beach and the streets of the village. We had lunch at Mele Mele burger, my favorite place there.
I recommend spending a whole day doing this route to see everything calmly. And if it’s possible, to finish it in Orio, it’s beautiful too.
Sixth stop: CAP FERRET
Our next stop was this amazing french village. I wanted to go there since I watched “Les petits mouchoirs”, which was filmed there.
We stayed only one night, in a little suite at La Frégate Hotel, next to Bélisaire beach. It’s a very cozy and quiet place. The zone is full of oysters restaurants, in front of the sea, it’s pretty nice.
I fell in love with all places we saw, both bay beaches and Atlantic ones, the lighthouse and the amazing houses in front of the sea, with stairs to the beach. I recommend going late in the day to La Pointe.
Talking about restaurants, there are many places to go, but we didn’t have time to taste all of them. La Maison du Bassin, for those who want to enjoy french food, or Le Pinasse Café, that offers all kinds of food with a more affordable price. For breakfast we went to Cocotte, a very friendly place with a cool decoration.

Seventh stop: DUNE DU PYLA
Before climbing the dune, we stopped at La C(o)rniche Hotel, where we took a snack. It’s an amazing place with incredible views. If you have the opportunity to visit it, don’t miss it.
Then, we walked along a path up to the dune, but we didn’t use the stairs, we climbed it freely. Honestly, it costs a lot to up the dune, and even more if it’s windy, but once at the top, views are awesome.

Eighth stop: HOSSEGOR
Hossegor streets are full of cool shops, and we liked a lot both the quite lake and the long beach.
Nineth stop: BIARRITZ
This village is charming, I love it. The old town, the casino, the beach, the promenade along the sea, everything is nice. We stopped at Milady beach, between Biarritz and Saint Jean de Luz, sunset there is beautiful.
Tenth Stop: PARQUE NATURAL BARDENAS REALES
Finally, on the way back home, we visited this desert, in Navarra. The easiest is to start in the information point, where they give you a map with a circular route through the park, cause it’s too big to see it in only one day. You can enjoy the route by car, walking or cycling. If you choose to do it by car, it’s better with an all-terrain vehicle. It’s a beautiful place, where a lot of movie scenes have been filmed.
With love, Us.
